Import the hierarchy structure

The Manage Hierarchy Structure tool allows you to save the hierarchy structure in a text file and then import this file into another hierarchy. It can be used, for example, to compare the contents of two hierarchies or to copy the structure from one hierarchy into another.

To import the hierarchy structure:

  1. Right-click on the node where you want to import items, and select Tools > Manage Hierarchy Structure.
  2. Switch to the Import tab.
  3. Select the location of the exported file in the Import from File field.
  4. Check the boxes next to the items you want to import.
  5. Click on the Import button.
  6. If the destination hierarchy already contains items from the file, a dialog box will be displayed where you can select what to do with each item.
  7. Once the import process has been finished successfully, imported items will appear in the hierarchy.

Note: This function has limitations when it comes to documents with user-entered data, such as projects: when the structure is imported, these documents will be created but left blank. If you want a full copy, use the Copy From tool (see Copy items from another hierarchy).
