Portfolio 4.1 Release Notes

New Features

Import Selection Constraints from Planning Space Variables

Selection Constraints may be defined from Planning Space Variables of the appropriate types. The Planning Space user may now define the optionality of each project and Portfolio can interpret this data as Selection Constraints upon import.

Property variables should be used where possible (Dataflow), or force equality between all scenario variables (Economics / Financials). See Selection Constraints for more information.

Start Period Adjustment on Import

To help the user import data more easily into Portfolio, there is now an option to truncate leading data (typically zeroes) and shift the remaining opportunity input data forward:

  • The number of time periods truncated may be unique to each opportunity.
  • Portfolio will also remember the original time periods where the data started and store these as “Base Selections”, which may be applied as manual selections at any time to a scenario.
  • The functionality is available in Excel and Planning Space data sources. From Excel, there is an option to truncate data prior to the first non-zero value of a specified metric. Planning Space data sources offer this plus additional options of specifying an exact start date variable, or shifting by a given number of months.

See Start Period Adjustment for more information.

Built-In Group by Selection Period

A selection period grouping is now available by default to enable dashboards to be grouped by start month, quarter, or year depending on the time unit of the portfolio. Only groups with members will be visible. An opportunity may belong to multiple time period groupings, if it is selected multiple times. The results for each group represent all opportunities that started in that time period.

Enhanced Export of Selections to Planning Space Economics

Enhanced the capability to export Portfolio selections to Economics:

  • Multiple selections of a project may now be exported, resulting in a new folder in the cloned hierarchy containing the surrogate projects, which will have their names appended numerically.
  • Monthly and quarterly portfolio selections may now be exported. Projects in the cloned hierarchy will be modified through a combination of start year and monthly shifting of time series data, as needed to reflect the new start.

Minimum Threshold Selection Dependencies

Supporting a new type of Selection Dependencies: minimum thresholds. These are useful where a selection quantity >1 of the independent is needed for any amount of dependent to be selected. An example would be 5 delineation wells are required before the development program of up to 50 wells may begin. Using 5 R to 50 R would not achieve the desired outcome, because Portfolio reads this as a 1 to 10 ratio and will allow 10 Dependent as soon as one Independent is selected. From v4.1, the user may specify 5 R (Independent) and leave the Dependent quantity blank. This will be interpreted as a minimum of 5 independent needed to enable any number of dependents.

Refine Selection Constraints with Min Fraction

Min Fraction is a new column available in the Selection Constraints grid. The Min Fraction feature allows the user to specify the minimum quantity that must be selected IF the opportunity is selected (Min Fraction does not mandate selection of the opportunity).

SeeMin Fraction for further explanation.

Enhancements

  • Added start date customization to all dashboards so users can now choose both the start and end date to display.
  • Empty groups (with no members) will now be hidden when grouping is applied to dashboards.
  • Export Scenario Results and Export Opportunity Contributions dialog will remember the user's last settings.
  • New column in the Model tab indicates whether a metric was defined as Hidden in the expressions sheet. This will allow the user to filter out hidden metrics as desired. Hidden metrics are also now excluded as options in the Optimize drop-down list.
  • User can now toggle between automatic and manual sorting.
  • Display order in the list below is the same as on the dashboards above.
  • Pendo tracking: the Pendo analytics component now collects application usage data, for the purpose of understanding user workflows and improving the application. Pendo services can be disabled by customer request.
  • Fullscreen blowup option now available for Dashboard Heatmap widget.
  • Enersight data sources have been enhanced to allow the user to choose which data elements to import.
  • Default value has been increased to 0.001 for Opportunity Instance Selection Threshold. The previous default value of 0.000001 allowed for too small a selection for most use practical use cases. The value can be adjusted as needed in the Scenario Data tab.
  • Enhanced selection grid usability by allowing the user to click into a cell to view the exact selection quantity without losing the Optimized status. Previously, this action was considered an edit and would change the scenario status to Manual.
  • Enhanced the violations filter for dependency violations, to show both source and target opportunities and make it easier for the user to understand the cause of the violation.
  • Changed Scenario Rename to Info which includes optional description text box for each scenario. Descriptions will be visible when hovering beside the scenario name.
  • In the Selections grid right-click menu, renamed the CSV Export item to Export Selections, to clarify its function. The exported CSV file will be named Selections-xx where xx is the scenario ID.

Fixed Defects

  • Fixed a bug where the appropriate, matched master data was not correctly displayed by opportunity, in a contributions table widget. The master data displayed now should reflect the correct data used in opportunity-level calculations.
  • Fixed a bug in the Opportunities tab that caused the data view to revert to chart view when the split window was resized.
