Unit Labels
Unit labels may be added to metric names in Portfolio. This allows the user to manage unit labels independently of metric names, and import the correct unit labels automatically with data from Planning Space.
Portfolio does not convert units, calculate units from expressions, or have any foundational knowledge of unit meaning. The unit functionality is limited to labeling and consistency verification.
Units may be assigned to metrics via Expressions file import, input data from Excel or Planning Space, or direct editing in the Model tab.
Excel Data Sources
Unit labels may be added in a column next to the metric names in any input sheet that contains metrics:
p4 input data
p4 master data
p4 expressions
p4 metric limits

Planning Space Data Sources
When importing data from Planning Space, the desired currency and unit settings should be selected and will determine the imported data values as well as unit labels.

When mapping variables, the appropriate Planning Space unit will automatically populate when the metric is mapped. The unit may be removed if the user does not want to include a unit label.

Common Errors with Unit Labels
Portfolio optimization requires consistency of units for each metric. If any unit label is assigned to a metric in the Model, all input data must be labeled with the same unit. If the input data has a unit label, the expressions sheet unit cannot be null.
The user will be warned if there is a conflict with the unit label. Hover over the warning symbol to view the full warning.
Warning: Opportunity input of data version "X" has some issues with the metric "Y"
Any attempt to run an optimization will cause an error like "Invalid input unit "$m" for metric "Capex" in outcome 'Base' of opportunity 'Bravo Development' !
To find the source of this problem, navigate to the Opportunities page and choose the flagged data version and metric:
In this example, the error is affecting all opportunities which indicates the model may be missing the correct metric. The unit must be added to the model to solve this problem. This can be done via import from the p4 expressions sheet, or direct edit from the Model page as shown here:
