Import shapefiles

To import a shapefile ('SHP' format file) into a map layer:

  1. Select the layer where you want to place the data from the shapefile.
  2. Click the Shapefile button Shapefile button in the Map tab on the ribbon. In the pop-up dialog, select the shapefile and click OK.
  3. The shapefile will be imported, and the file's contents will be shown on the map and and a new item will be listed under the name of the layer in the legend.

You can import more than one shapefile into a layer, but only one file can be used in each import process.

You cannot edit the data imported from a shapefile in Dataflow. If you click Edit Item for a shapefile, you can modify the Name and Description, and the original location of the shapefile will be shown (note it shows the local file system of the computer where the import was performed).

Note: The maximum size of an imported file is 10 MB.
