Variables

This tab is used to map DATAFLOW variables to destination PLAN variables.

The Variables tab

The Default Settings section defines parameters of loaded data. Settings specified here apply to all variables but you can override them for each variable individually in the Source Variable section of the table.

The Periodic Variables and Summary Variables tabs contain the lists of mapped variables defined in the PLAN configuration. Columns in the Destination Variable section are explained in the table below. These settings are taken from the configuration settings and cannot be edited in the mapping template.

Column Description
Name Destination variable name.
Data Type Data type to which the destination variable belongs.
Is Currency? This box is checked if the variable is a monetary amount.
Unit Label Short name of the unit of measurement.
Aggregation Method Method used to calculate totals.
Rollup Method Method used to calculate values for different periodicities.

To map a variable:

  1. In the Source Variable section, click on the arrow in the Name column and select the Link option. A row for the mapping will be added below the selected variable.

Mapping a DATAFLOW variable

  1. Click on Select button in the Value column, and the Select Mapping window will be displayed.
  2. The Value Type field determines how mapped values are specified; you can enter a value manually or choose a DATAFLOW variable from the list.

The Value Type field

  1. Check the Load as scalar box if the mapped cell contains only one value which should be applied to all periods.
  2. If you check the Get data from parent entity box, PLAN will take values from the document one level higher in the DATAFLOW hierarchy. If the parent document does not contain the selected variable, an error message will be displayed.
  3. Click on OK to save the mapping and close the Select Mapping window. The mapped value or variable will be displayed in the table.

 The mapped value

  1. If required, specify mathematical operations to be performed during import. To add an operation, click on "+" next to the mapped variable and a new row will be added. Select an operation from the Operation field (add, subtract, multiply or divide) and link the second operand in the Value field. In the image below, several capital expenditure variables are summed up to be loaded into the Capex Total variable.

Note: Operations can be used only with numeric variables.

Example of operations

  1. If required, you can override the default currency settings by selecting values in the Currency and Real/Nominal columns. Make sure that the unit label of the PLAN variable corresponds to the currency you select; for example, if the unit label is USD and the currency is Euro, the imported currency values will be converted to Euro but the label in the PLAN document will be USD.

Note: If the selected currency is not in the currency deck you selected on the DATAFLOW loading screen, you will get a warning message as a currency deck defines currencies and inflation dates.
