Variables

The Default Settings section at the top defines parameters of loaded data. Settings specified here apply to all variables but you can also use the table at the bottom of the window to change settings for each variable individually.

The Use zeros if periodic variables have no values checkbox is used to replace non-existent values with zeroes. Non-existent values can cause problems if you try to use them in calculated variables so replacing them with zeroes makes sense. However, sometimes it can be important to know whether a variable has no value or its value equals to zero.

The Periodic Variables and Summary Variables tabs contain the lists of variables defined in the configuration settings (see Periodic Variables and Summary Variables). Columns in the Destination section are explained in the table below. These settings are taken from the configuration settings and cannot be edited in the mapping template.

Note: You do not need to map all variables, just the ones you will be using for analysis.

Column Description
Name Destination variable name.
Data Type Data type to which the destination variable belongs.
Is Currency? Check this box if the variable is an amount of money.
Unit Label Short name of the unit of measurement.
Aggregation Method Method used to calculate totals.
TimeScale Rollup Method Method used to calculate values for different periodicities.

The PalantirCASH Variables section contains CASH variables that correspond to destination variables, and their settings. To map a variable:

  1. In the Name column, click on the arrow and select the Choose Variable option.
  2. In the pop-up window, select a variable and click OK. The variable's name will be displayed in the cell.
  3. If you leave the settings as <Default>, they will be taken from the Default Settings section. If you do not want to use the defaults, select required options from the lists.
  4. If the variable has been mapped successfully, the icon in the Status column will change to Green Flag icon. Unmapped variables are marked with Blue Flag icon; this is not an error.
  5. If the settings of the selected CASH variable are different from those of the destination variable it has been mapped to, the icon in the Status column will change to Exclamation Mark icon. Move your mouse over the exclamation mark to view the warning message. If you receive a warning, you can:
  • Select a different CASH variable. This will resolve the problem only if you have selected a wrong variable in the first place.
  • Use the Click here to open and update PLAN configuration link at the bottom of the window to check if the PLAN variable settings are correct.
  • Copy variable settings from CASH to PLAN by using the Click here to update PalantirPLAN variables with variables in the data source link.
  • Use the current settings anyway. Warnings will not prevent you from using the template or loading data.
  1. If you want to map a variable which exists in CASH but not in PLAN, click on Add button above the Status column and select the variable in the pop-up window. The variable will be added to the PLAN configuration and appear in the template as linked.

To remove a mapping, click on the arrow in the Name column and select the Remove Link option.
