Kinds of Facilities
Facilities are classified by kind according to their capabilities, i.e. the role they can play in the project. The following kinds are available:
- Generic Facility: Aimed simply at the routing of fluids through the system: it will route all fluid coming into it to other destinations, depending on the capacity of its out connectors. Only production wells (or other facilities) can be linked to the in connectors of a generic facility, and its out connectors only accept connections to other facilities.
- Gas Plant: A facility that converts gas components into liquid components. See Gas Plant.
- Gas Injection Facility: Aimed at the injection of gas into the subsurface. It receives gas from the field or from an external source, and sends it to a group of gas injectors or to other destinations. Only other facilities can be linked to the in connectors of a gas injection facility, and its out connectors only accept connections to gas injection wells or to other facilities. See Injection Facilities.
- Water Injection Facility: Aimed at the injection of water into the subsurface. It receives water from the field or from an external source, and sends it to a group of water injectors or to other destinations. Only other facilities can be linked to the in connectors of a water injection facility, and its out connectors only accept connections to water injection wells or to other facilities. See Injection Facilities.
- Gas Lift Facility: Automatically created together with Gas Lift Installation jobs. It receives gas from the field or from an external source, and sends it to a group of oil producers associated with that job. Only other facilities can be linked to the in connectors of a gas injection facility, and its out connectors only accept connections to oil producers or to other facilities.
- CO2 Injection Facility: The CO2 Injection facility is a special type of injection facility with all the functionality of other injection facilities plus the ability to automatically capture and process all CO2 emissions defined in the model (in the Emission section of facilities). If there are CO2 injection facilities created in the model, all CO2 emissions are routed to them (if more than one co2 injection facility is present, emissions are allocated proportionally), and commingled with any CO2 coming from the field. The CO2 Injection facility works internally in mass units (called Weight units in PetroVR), and converts volumes coming from the field to Weight using the constant 1.977 g/l. CO2 coming from the field is treated as any other fluid regarding routing and chokes: if a capacity limit is hit and part of the CO2 coming to the CO2 Injection Facility cannot be injected or routed down, the system is choked back. However, this is not the case with CO2 coming from facility emissions. Whenever there is a part of emitted CO2 that cannot be injected, that amount is released and not choke back (since there is no field sources for it). After the simulation, CO2 Injection Facilities report both Injected rates and Released rates, so users can map these rates to their Economic model, for example for Tax calculations.
