Consumption

The Consumption pane in the facility General Tab (Facility) allows you to model the use of power and of part of the processed fluids as fuel.

  • Fluid: Enter fluids for consumption in separate rows. The available options are Electricity and all the fluids for which an in connection is defined.
  • Fixed Rate: Fixed consumption rate during the facility lifecycle.
  • Variable Rate: Variable consumption rate per unit of the fluid selected in the
  • For every column.

Consumption is always subtracted from the input fluids and will only impact the output if available input - consumption < output capacity. If the input is lower than the Fixed Rate, the difference is made up with purchased power and/or fluids. Purchased amounts are displayed in the facility Simulation Graphs Tab.

Variable consumption rate with potential input = capacity

In this case the potential input equals the capacity, but since the consumption is subtracted from the actual input the output is penalized.

Variable consumption rate with potential input > capacity + consumption

In this case the potential input is large enough to cover both the output capacity and the consumption, so that the facility is still working at full capacity.

Fixed consumption rate with potential input < consumption

In this case the potential input is not enough to cover the required fixed consumption, and therefore the remainder is bought.

Fixed and variable consumption over time

This graph illustrates a combination of fixed and variable consumption over time. At the beginning, the field is not producing yet and the facility's fixed consumption compels the system to purchase a given amount of fluid. As the input (field production) increases the purchased amount decreases, until the production is enough to cover both the fixed rate and the increasing variable rate. The output starts the day the actual input surpasses the consumption.
